The Boogie Kings Return to The River City Radio Hour
posted 09/11/2009 by Courtney Ledbetter

The Boogie Kings Return to River City Radio Hour

All those who have cried, “We miss the Boogie Kings” will be happy to hear that the popular group will be the featured musicians for the September 18th River City Radio Hour.  Led by Richard Adams, the Boogie Kings includes the keyboard wonder William Hayes with J.T. Fauber on percussion. The Boogie Kings groupies will be delighted with the band’s range of musical styles and virtuoso performances.

Also on the bill is “The Little Girl with the Big Voice”, Emily Henline, who debuted with the Radio Hour in April. Emily comes to the September Radio Hour directly from her starring role in ShenanArts Annie. In between she has managed an impressive number of performances on stage and on television. A regular on the Virginia Junior Opry, she was described by Bob Campbell, the director of the program, as the “little girl who has got what it takes to make it in [show] business. She has a super voice, cute-as-a-button looks and a wonderful spirit. She is special.” Emily will also appear on the famous Blue Ridge Backroads radio show broadcast from the Rex Theatre in Galax, Virginia in December.

Waynesboro’s own Lady of Laughter, Marsha Howard, will inaugurate the WTA Joke Contest at the September Radio Hour.  Potential comedians may apply to present a joke at the Radio Hour. Three names will be drawn during the performance and the jokesters incorporated into the show. All jokes must be PG. A final winner will be announced at the 8:00 pm December Radio Hour. For more detail, call 943-9999 or write assistant@waynetheatre.org.  Marsha Howard will also bring her own bag of jokes to the hour.

Waynesboro’s Got Talent: The Jingle Bell Jubilee, the new Radio Hour serial, will premier in September. The four-part serial chronicles the madcap attempts by a local group of “artistes” to make Waynesboro a destination for art lovers. Written by Elizabeth Massie and Barbara Spilman Lawson, it is guaranteed to bring its own brand of humor to the performance.

The merchant of the month is Bill Mikolay of Main Street Discount.

The September 18th performances will take place at the Blue Ridge Christian Fellowship at 329 Main Street in downtown Waynesboro. The Radio Hour is presented at 6:30 pm and 8 pm. Admission is “Pay what you will, but Pay.”

The River City Radio Hour is a production of the Waynesboro Cultural Commission, Waynesboro Downtown Development, Inc. and The Wayne Theatre Alliance.
