MHA-A SPONSORS 55TH ANNUAL MEETING AND SILENT AUCTION
Live Your Life Well
“A Look at How You are Standing in the Way of Living Your Life Well” will be the focal point of presenter Larry Friedland for the 55th MHA-A Annual Meeting program. He will ask rhetorical points and challenge peoples’ thoughts using everyday phrases to remind people of what we are really saying when we speak. He will do this through finding humor in everyday situations, poking fun at things and trying to bond people with common events.
Larry Friedland holds a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Arts with emphasis in Stage Combat and Stage Management from Florida State University's School of Theatre and is employed as the Staff Development Specialist for Valley Community Services Board. In this capacity, he has responsibility for training all staff, including those at multiple outside agencies, at all levels, in multiple curriculums including Health and Safety as well as Ethics, Boundaries, and Human Rights.
In addition to his work at Valley, Larry's extensive training in multiple forms of European and Asian martial arts has involved him in the teaching and education of actors and performers of all ages at dozens of theatre companies and conservatories around the country in the portrayal of violence and physical and mental crisis for productions and films.

Minh Douglas Martin is the 2009 MHA-A Featured Artist specializing in blown glass. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam and grew up in Southeast Asia. He spent his school years in rural Lancaster County, PA and then attended Yale University where he studied geophysics and environmental science. The years after graduation were spent building boats and restoring houses in Austin, TX and then Santa Barbara, CA. It was here that he met The Great Br’ioni who apprenticed him in the art of glass for three years. A happy accident then stranded him in Staunton, Virginia where he has lived and worked for the past five years as a partner in Trinity Studios.
He says, “I work in blown glass, seeking both beauty and functionality. I value well-wrought craftsmanship and believe that the objects we surround ourselves with inform and elevate our collective identity. I believe art/craft is the antidote to the ‘throw-away’ culture and that by making durable and precious objects, we enrich ourselves and ensuing generations. To this end, I seek to distill classic ideas and forms, and reinterpret them in a contemporary aesthetic.”
This is a great way to get your Christmas shopping started and contribute to the MHA-A’s programs and services.
